(TRADE NEWSWIRE): Our highly revered Hausa elders say :(Barewa tayi gudu yarta yayi rarrafe) English meaning (Like father like daughter), TRADE NEWSWIRE reports.

Our highly revered Yoruba elders say: -(Eni bi ni l’aajo) English meaning (It is who gave birth to one that one resembles)

(A ki i bi ewure, ki o ya ni iso aguntan) English meaning (A goat cannot be born, for it to branch at sheep’s stall)

Our highly revered Igbo elders say: (Ọ dịghị onye na-adịghị dị ka ofe na azù ya ) English meaning (There is no one who does not like soup with fish in it)- Everyone does not just want a child, but we all wanted a well brought-up child who adds value at all times i.e a ‘good child’.

The practicality of the above stated proverbs was what played out at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, recently where a prestigious Nigerian university of many years’ standing Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) bestowed a Distinguished Service Award to one of its former student, an elegantly-beautiful and intelligent Queen of Maritime, Queen Hadiza Bala Usman, a Socio-Economic Reformer and Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

The deserving honour bestowed on Queen Hadiza, by the Vice Chancellor of ABU, Professor Iya Abubaka, was not a surprise, as her widely-applauded outstanding performance at NPA was tailored after the brilliant performance of her late father Prof. Yusufu Bala Usman, while still alive in his days at ABU.

Prof. Yusufu Bala Usman, was a renowned Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) academician, historian and activist who trained and nurtured Queen Hadiza for leadership position from childhood, as she grew up on ABU campus under the watchful eyes of her disciplined father who was at that time a staff of ABU.

Our highly revered Hausa elders say: (Alla ya ce, Tashi in taimaka ka) English meaning (God says, Get up, and then let me help you)- Queen Hadiza first worked before God celebrated her to the world).

(Amfanin hankali aiki da shi)English meaning (The value of good sense is in making use of it).

(Yau da shi ya sa allura ginin rijiya) English meaning (By doing a thing little by little ‘Perseverance’ this made it possible for the needle to dig a well).

It should be noted that achievement recorded by Queen Hadiza at NPA included among many others:

-Flagging-off of the first export consignment of manganese, a solid mineral resource from the Ikorodu lighter Terminal enroute Apapa Port to various export destinations across the world to boost the nation’s economy and facilitate foreign exchange earnings into the country.

-Declaration of the sum of N299.56bn revenue generated for NPA in 2017 fiscal year, which exceeded the 2016 figure of N162.20bn by 84.65 percent making it to be the highest generated revenue by the Authority in the past five years.

-The official receipt of FPSO EGINA into the safe haven of Lagos Harbour by NPA MD, Queen Hadiza, after a long ninety-day voyage from the Samsung Shipyard Heavy Industry Goeje in the Republic of South Korea. This was enough assurances for Oil and gas-related companies to operate itch-free in the maritime sector aimed achieving the Federal Government goal of liberalising the Oil and Gas sector to further engender economic development of Nigeria.

Not to talk of series of giant economic strides and reforms done by her to make Nigerian ports competitive in the face various challenges at hand.

There is no gainsaying the fact as Yorubas say: (Ni inu awon eye ti on be ni oko, okin ni oba) English meaning (Of all the birds in the bush, peacock is the Queen)- QUEEN OF MARITIME, QUEEN HADIZA BALLA USMAN.
