(TRADE NEWSWIRE): The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has stormed the AAMA 2017 Executive Meeting holding in Alexandria Egypt, along with a World-renowned First-rate Strategic Communications Professional and Director of Special Duties in the Office of the DG NIMASA, Hajia Lami Tumaka, among others to discuss the way forward for the development of African maritime sector, TRADE NEWSWIRE reports.

Peterside, who is currently the Chairman, of the Association of Heads of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA), since elected to the office had taken developmental steps to tackle the twin issue of piracy, sea crime and illegal migration in the continent; and engendered corporation African stakeholders in the maritime sector to work together so as to ensure Africa takes its rightful place in the global maritime community among other efforts.

It would be recalled that Peterside was unanimously elected to lead the continental body as the Chairman at the 3rd conference of the Association of African Maritime Heads in Abuja where he took over from Mr. Sobantu Tilayi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of South African Maritime and Safety Agency (SAMSA) who held sway since 2013.

AAMA was formed following the signing of the African Transport and Maritime Charter in 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to bring together all players in the African maritime sector. The Association is an umbrella body of five African Maritime Stakeholders’ groups namely: Association of Maritime Administrations of Africa, Africa’s Ship Registry Forum, African Ship Owners Association as well as Africa Shippers’ Council and Seafarers’ Forum with the aim of promoting the development of Africa’s maritime regulatory and maritime environment
