Value-driven Riverians beloveth Dr. Dakuku Peterside of NIMASA clocks 47 years prudently

(TRADE NEWSWIRE): (A person that is loved by many people is always seen as a faultless personality) Yoruba language (Eni aye n fe ki I ni abuku kankan ni ara), TRADE NEWSWIRE reports.

(Bibi ire ko se fi owo ra) English language (To be a well-behaved person cannot be bought with money).

(If you compare one child with another, you will beat one to death) Yoruba language (Bi a ba fi omo we omo, a lu’kan pa), as said by our highly revered Yoruba elders.

A beloved son of Rivers State and Director-General, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, clocks 47 years on 31st December, 2017, increasing revenue into the coffers of the Nigerian government through prudent management of resources at his disposal at the same time engendering development in the nation’s maritime sector and Africa by extension.

From R-L Mr. Juvenal Shiundu, a Director in IMO from Kenya, Chairman AAMA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, The Secretary General of the IMO, Mr. Kitack Lim, Executive Director Finance and Administration, NIMASA, Mr. Bashir Jamoh and Emma Alfred and Assistant Director in NIMASA during a meeting with the Secretary General of the IMO at the Organisation’s Headquarters in London.

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and safety Agency (NIMASA) and Chairman, of the Association of Heads of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside, receiving a plaque of honour from the President, Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport based in Egypt, Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, during the Association of Heads of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA) 2017 Executive Meeting that was held in Alexandria Egypt.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, had during the year briefed the State House media team about the performance of some government agencies after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, as she disclosed that NIMASA remitted N4.95bn in 2015 to the nation’s purse while the same agency remitted a whooping N24bn in 2016, representing a 400% increase in revenue generated to that of 2015.

The astronomic 400% increase in the revenue generated by Peterside-led Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) into the Federal Government purse in 2016 compared to the amount generated in 2015, making Riverians to start imagining the drastic increase in revenue that would have accrued to the state treasury had he been voted the Governor of River State in 2015 considering the professional way he is managing NIMASA.

There is no gainsaying the fact that Nigerians are not ready to let go Peterside for any reason at the moment considering the tremendous value he is adding to the nation’s economy with respect to increased revenue generation into the government coffers, but I think it is only ‘fair’ to allow his indigenous state of Rivers to also benefit from his resource management expertise and wealth of knowledge haven benefited the Federal Government greatly. it is time for Rivers State to also enjoy their son too.

It should be noted that the value embedded in Peterside was acknowledged in the entire African continent immediately he started managing NIMASA, just as it was recognized by the Federal Government, a development that led to his appointment as the NIMASA DG.

However, Peterside was unanimously elected to lead the Association of African Maritime Administration (AAMA) in 2017, a maritime continental body, as the Chairman at the 3rd conference of the Association of African Maritime Heads) in Abuja where he took over from Mr. Sobantu Tilayi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of South African Maritime and Safety Agency (SAMSA) who held sway since 2013.

AAMA was formed following the signing of the African Transport and Maritime Charter in 2012 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to bring together all players in the African maritime sector. The Association is an umbrella body of five African Maritime Stakeholders’ groups namely: Association of Maritime Administrations of Africa, Africa’s Ship Registry Forum, African Ship Owners Association as well as Africa Shippers’ Council and Seafarers’ Forum with the aim of promoting the development of Africa’s maritime regulatory and maritime environment.
